Fantasy/Mystery

Synopsis:
50 years ago, Zeus, Inc., and its CEO, the mysterious Joseph Brentwood, saved the world from a major energy crisis by discovering a new unlimited energy resource. Now, in 2069, Mr. Brentwood has gone missing and private eye Alex Grosjean has been hired to find him by his daughter (and Alex's best friend), Aleisha. Black-outs begin to occur all over the world and somehow Alex believes it's tied to Mr. Brentwood's disappearance. Her search leads her through her own murky past and into the fantastical depths of Hell itself, where she discovers that Mr. Brentwood is not who or what he seems to be. With the help of an otherworldly man named Pip, Alex must save both Mr. Brentwood and the world. But will she be able to face her own guilty past in order to do it?

My Thoughts:

Gosh, I really enjoyed this book! It was right up my alley. What would you do if your best friend needed your help? You would help her no matter what...right? That is exactly what Alex does for her best friend Aleisha when her father goes missing. He is CEO of Zeus Inc. a company that provides power to the future world and with him missing what will happen? Alex must find him and fast for the sake of the world and her best friend. This story has a bit of everything...Inner strength, friendship, mystery, otherworldly people (if our could call them that :) ), and just a little romance!

Alex is a wonderful character. I enjoyed reading about her deep inner strength, her loyalty to her friends, and after being in missing persons she is a fabulous private Investigator. I enjoyed the way her mind worked through situations to get to the end goal. Aleisha, Alex's best friend and daughter to Mr. Brentwood, finds herself CEO of the family company after her father goes missing and she takes on the roll with confidence and stride. She is distraught over he fathers disappearance but that is why she hired Alex, she's the best at what she does and she has faith in her best friend to find him. I loved that both the main women in this book were quick thinkers, tough, and determined. Girl Power! LOL There are other really great characters in the story but I do not want to spoil it for you as to who they are because I enjoyed figuring them out along the way and I think you guys will to :)! I'll just say that they are mythological and otherworldly....

As soon as I got this book I delved right into it and I could not put it down till I had solved the case! Zeus Inc. was a fast and enjoyable read with deep characters with profound secrets. The end of the book held some wonderful surprises for Alex and concluded the story perfectly but also left me wondering what is next for Alex Grosjean? Who will she end up helping next? Is there a series forming? I got to ask some of these questions and more to the author Robin herself! Read more below!

My Rating: 4 Bookshelves

Q &A With the Author Robin Burks!

Emily: Who designed your awesome cover?

Robin: I actually did the cover design. My background is in web/graphic design, so I thought that I would be able to do the cover justice since I knew the book and where I was going with it.

Emily: Without giving to much away for people that have not yet read your book, what prompted you to write this futuristic mythical story?

Robin: I had this strange dream one night. In this dream, I lived in a futuristic world where everything was related to the mythology. When I woke up, I couldn't shake the dream and it stayed with me until I started writing Zeus, Inc. It was just one of those things that haunted me on a daily basis and gave way for the book's setting.

Emily: Well, that was some really awesome dream! And I'm glad it happened or else this wonderful book would not have come to be!

Emily: Do you have a favorite character? If so, why?

Robin: Alex, being the main character, is also my favorite character. Much of myself is written into Alex and a lot of the responses she gives in situations is what I think my own honest reaction might have been. She's a lot braver than I am, and definitely a lot tougher. I like her because she's not perfect and that makes her feel very real to me.

Emily: You concluded Zeus Inc. wonderfully, left me very satisfied, and at the same time left it open for Alex to have more adventures. Is there a second book in the works?

Robin: I'm so glad you asked that! I am actually working on a plot outline for the second book. I'm pretty sure there will be some vampires (but more along the lines of mythological creatures) and I also have a few surprises planned for another character from the first book.

Emily: I sensed some vampire introduction there at the end of the book! I am so excited and can not wait to read more of Alex's encounters!

Emily: Are you reading anything now?

Robin: I am always reading! I purchased the StoryBundle that was recently offered at StoryBundle.com - it was all science fiction. I just finished Journey to Hart's Halo by Lou Hood and am now reading Bypass Gemini by Joe Lallo, who is one of my favorite self-published authors.

Emily: Awesome! I love an author that writes and reads (LOL). I honestly have not heard of any of those books... I am now Goodreadsing them!

Emily: What are 4 things you never leave the house without?

Robin: My keys (obviously!), my smartphone (I can't help it, I have an addiction), my reading glasses and Burt's Bees chapstick. These things are always in my purse.
Emily: I am a Burt's Bees person as well and when I forget it one day I feel so bummed!

Emily: You are a very busy women, Owner of Bad Karma Studios/ Sunrise Promotions/ and Author!.....What do you do on your free time??

Robin: Free time? What free time? Just kidding. I love to watch sci fi/fantasy television programs and I enjoy video gaming. I am also a board member of a local community theatre group and am usually working on a show of some sort.

Emily: Any advice for new authors?

Robin: My best advice was what was given to me: Just write. I'd always loved writing exercises in school, but never sat down and tried to write anything for myself. But once I did, that's when I became a writer. James Moran said it best: "If you write, you're a writer." Those words still inspire me. It's so simple that sometimes it's the most difficult thing to do. I try to take at least an hour every day to put something down into words or do some research on something I'm working on.

Emily: That is really inspiring! Just writing a little something everyday is great advice. Sometimes I think us readers just imagine Authors completing a book in big chunks of time but sometimes its just little thoughts written down here or there that later on are woven together.

Emily: And finally....Where can we all stalk you (LOL)?

Robin: I'm all over the internet! Here are the links:

Emily: I just wanted to say a quick thank you to Robin for answering some of my questions and for gifting me her wonderful book! You should all go and grab it now, while this is all fresh in your mind! :) You will enjoy in immensely because it had crime, mythology, futuristic aspects, and a small love story!

Thanks so much, Emily! I'm really glad you enjoyed the book. I've just started working on the second one and I'm as excited about it as I was about Zeus, Inc.
